Simplifying Finance & Operations License Management: What You Need to Know

Microsoft announced in the frist days of April 2025 that major changes in the licensing of the Finance & Operation apps will be introduced later this year. This is for simplifying license Management and and more transparency regarding Finance & Operation license availability and current usage.

What will change during the year:

  • Starting April 30, 2025, administrators will gain access to enhanced license usage reporting in the Power Platform admin center, providing insights into available and assigned seats.
  • In LCS the same report will be available to provide Customer and implementation partners access to details of current license status.
  • Users without an assigned license will receive in-product notifications, prompting them to request a license from their administrator.
  • Beginning August 30, 2025, all users will be required to have an assigned license to access Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations applications.
  • License assignments will be centralized through the Microsoft 365 admin center, covering applications like Finance, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, Project Operations, and Human Resources.
  • Organizations are encouraged to review their license assignments in advance to avoid disruptions.

What should be done:

  • Use the Finance and Operations User License Level Overview Report in the Power Platform admin center or within the LCS to assess current license usage.
  • Begin assigning licenses through the Microsoft 365 admin center to ensure a smooth transition before the enforcement date.

The update aims to simplify administrative processes, enhance visibility, and ensure compliance while reducing overhead for organizations. To avoid any disruptions while keeping costs optimized you should take action as mentioned above.
