Entity Research Tool – Update 10.0.42

Even though the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain version 10.0.42 is still in public preview, I have updated the Entity Research Tool before the general availability date. With the latest version, even more content is available in the ER tool to support Dynamics 365F/SCM/C consultants in their daily business.

The basic idea behind this tool was publisched before some month in a former blog about introducing the Dynamics 365 Finance Data Entity Explorer as it can be very time consuming to collect meta data informations for Dynamics 365 F/SCM/C data migrations and integrations.

Special thanks go to Miquel Vidal Morales and David Ruston for their suggestions for improvements to make the Entity Research Tool smarter and more powerful for practitioners.
The following changes have been introduced with the latest version.

Entity and table data

  • meta data based on 10.0.42 preview
Selector for D365F&O Version

Extended filters for entity list table for

  • Change tracking for entities

Beside the Is New, Obsolete and Is Public slicers we have introduced a selector for the Chance Tracking flag of the entity

Extended filters for the table-fields table to search for

  • Enum fields
  • Mandatory fields
  • Data Field types

With filters for Enum and table data types you can quickly find necessary precondtions for your data entity project

Extended display on table-fields table

  • Data types of table columns
  • Display of field sizes for varchar fields

The table-fields table is now showing also the data type of a column as well as the length of text fields

Improved Quickview (on the entity list table)

  • A Tile showing the number of Enum fields

The QuickView for the entity now also shows the number of Enum’s which are part of the entity

Detailed view for Enum’s (drill through on table-fields details table)

  • shows Enum field descirption and Enum value

Click the right mouse on a line which is indicated to be a Enum and select Drill through and Enum-Detail, then you get the details of the Enum in a seperate Power BI page

Hopefully this enhancement makes is more comfortable to use the Data Entity Research Tool. Further improvements will follow the feedback of the Dynamics 365 communities and feel free to bring your ideas back to me.

This update to the Entity research Tool was first published on the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance / Supply Chain / Retail – for sustainable business improvment by Andreas Raithel on the 26.11.2024.
